I have been fortunate to have lived and worked in Brecon and the national park area for forty years. Apart from the time I have spent in the hills and valleys of this beautiful park on a recreational basis, I have been lucky to have worked the whole area as a mountain leader. From the scenic peaks of the Fans to the waterfall walks of Pontneddfechan and the glorious valley walks of the Usk Valley and the Brecon to Monmouth Canal, the Brecon Beacons National Park is simply a picture postcard hiking destination. From the more sedate valley walks to the more challenging mountain routes, I hope this collection will have something for everybody. This collection will reflect my favourite routes in this stunning national park that I call home. A note on start points: There will either be a car park or parking at the start point. However, in some of the rural locations, it may be limited to 1-2 parking spots. A note on routes and highlights used: At times shorter routes will include highlights that are worth taking time out to visit, some for an hour or so, a museum or other attraction, maybe. The longer routes will include highlights that are more scenically orientated, so as not to detract from the time taken as part of a longer mountain route. A note on off grid sections: If the route is displaying an off grid section, this indicates that there is no defined path routed on OSM (Open Street Map). Sometimes, there will be a path of sorts, but it may be indistinct or limited. However, sometimes in the more remoter sections, there is simply no footpath. In this case, expect rough but passable terrain. Please get in touch if you need further information.
